Delhi Capitals’ (DC) captain Meg Lanning expressed disappointment after her team suffered yet another Women’s Premier League (WPL) final heartbreak, losing to Mumbai Indians (MI) in a nail-biting contest. This marked DC’s third consecutive loss in a WPL final, including their second defeat against Mumbai in a title clash.
Despite being in a strong position during the match, Delhi failed to capitalize, falling short in their chase of 150 runs. Speaking after the match, Lanning praised her team’s efforts but admitted that things haven’t clicked for them in WPL finals.
“We have had another good season, and unfortunately, we couldn’t get over the line. Congrats to Mumbai–you have been excellent through the season. Chasing 150 was a pretty good target for us. One more partnership could have been enough, but I’m proud of the team,” Lanning said during the post-match presentation.
The Australian great further acknowledged that DC had been unable to bring their best performance when it mattered the most.
“There’s no right or wrong way to do it. Performing on the night is important, and Mumbai was too good tonight. We haven’t been able to put our best performance in the final, which is disappointing, but that’s cricket. It has just not happened for us. We are bitterly disappointed. We put ourselves in a good position but couldn’t finish it off,” she added.

Another Final Loss – What’s Next for DC?
For Delhi Capitals, losing three consecutive WPL finals is a bitter pill to swallow. While they have been one of the most consistent teams in the tournament, they will now have to analyze what’s going wrong on the big day and find ways to cross the final hurdle in future seasons.
Can DC break their WPL final curse in the next edition? Only time will tell.
