Virender Sehwag Posts ‘Kutte Ki Dum’ After Pakistan’s Ceasefire Violation

Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has taken a sharp and unmistakable dig at Pakistan following the latest ceasefire violation by the neighbouring country. Known for his outspoken and fearless nature on and off the field, Sehwag shared a cryptic yet biting message on social media after explosions were reported across the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) on Saturday.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Sehwag posted an image with the Hindi phrase: “Kutte ki dum tedi ki tedi hi rehti hai,” loosely translating to “A dog’s tail never straightens.” The idiom is popularly used to describe those who refuse to mend their ways—an indirect swipe at Pakistan’s repeated violations and inability to uphold ceasefire agreements with India.

Sehwag’s remarks came in the wake of widespread explosions and drone activities reported in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Rajasthan—just hours after both countries had publicly committed to maintaining peace along the border. His tweet was seen as a reflection of public sentiment in India, frustrated with the continuous instability created by Pakistan despite diplomatic efforts.

The former cricketer, fondly known as the ‘Sultan of Multan’ for his iconic triple century in Pakistan during the 2004 tour, had already criticised Pakistan earlier. On Friday, he had posted:

“War has been chosen by Pakistan when they had an opportunity to keep quiet. They have escalated to save its terrorist assets, speaks so much about them. Our forces will reply in the most appropriate manner, a manner Pakistan will never forget.”

The situation intensified after the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the tragic death of 26 people, many of whom were tourists. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine known terrorist camps deep inside Pakistani territory.

As reports of Pakistan’s retaliation and ceasefire breach surfaced, tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations flared. Political leaders in India also expressed their alarm. Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, tweeted:

“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!”

He followed up with another post:

“This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”

India’s stance, reinforced by public figures like Sehwag, remains firm. The nation has made it clear that any act of aggression will be met with equal, if not greater, retaliation.

While Sehwag’s post may appear humorous to some, its timing and message underscore the gravity of the situation—one that brings back memories of past conflicts and calls into question the sincerity of peace overtures from across the border.
