The world won’t end if Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t play for MI: Aakash Chopra

Former India Test opener Aakash Chopra feels if Mumbai Indians have to keep an eye on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness, they will have to go by the BCCI’s advice. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been away from cricket for a long time due to recurring injuries and he has also been away from the T20 World Cup 2022 as well as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The final of the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup are to be held this year. In such a situation, the BCCI would like to ensure that Bumrah’s return to the IPL does not re-surface his back injury. Aakash Chopra says that if BCCI feels that Bumrah should be rested for a few matches then Mumbai Indians will have to rest Bumrah.

Speaking to India Today, Aakash Chopra said, “You are an Indian player first and then you play for your franchise. So if Bumrah feels any discomfort, the BCCI will intervene and tell the franchise that we will not release him.” The world won’t end if he doesn’t play seven matches.”

He further added, “Also, when you are fit, you want to keep playing because it makes you better. So I definitely think Mumbai Indians will look into it if the BCCI intervenes.”

Aakash Chopra has also said that before playing the final of the World Test Championship, Jasprit Bumrah should play a red ball game like Ravindra Jadeja did. If Bumrah wants, he can play red ball cricket in Irani Cup or county cricket and play the final of World Test Championship. It will be interesting to see how BCCI will manage Jasprit Bumrah’s workload.
