Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO Kavya Maran has called for a strict ban on players who withdraw from the IPL without a valid reason. Her comments come in the wake of several instances where foreign players have pulled out of the tournament after being picked at the auction.
Maran cited the example of Wanindu Hasaranga, who was bought by SRH but later withdrew due to injury. She emphasized the disruption caused to team planning and the financial implications of such withdrawals.
The SRH CEO also advocated for more flexibility in player retention rules, arguing that franchises should have the freedom to determine the salaries of their retained players.
Maran’s comments highlight the growing frustration among IPL franchises with the issue of player availability and the need for stronger regulations to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.
Do you think a ban on players who withdraw from the IPL is a fair solution? What other measures can be taken to address this issue?
