Sri Lankan cricket stalwart Ranjan Madugalle has etched his name in the annals of cricket history by becoming the first match referee to officiate in 400 One Day Internationals (ODIs).
The milestone was achieved during the third ODI between India and Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Madugalle’s illustrious career spanning over three decades has seen him officiate in numerous high-profile matches, including seven World Cups and multiple ICC tournament finals.
In addition to his record-breaking ODI tally, Madugalle has also officiated in over 200 Test matches, cementing his status as one of the most experienced and respected figures in cricket administration.
Former elite-panel umpire Simon Taufel lauded Madugalle’s exceptional career, highlighting his dedication and integrity. The Sri Lankan himself expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve the game he loves.
This remarkable achievement is a testament to Madugalle’s unwavering commitment and passion for cricket. His contributions to the sport extend far beyond his playing days, and his legacy as a match referee will be remembered for years to come.
