Speaking ahead of the Test, Hough revealed that rain and thunderstorms are expected on Friday, the first day of the match. The groundstaff is prepared to deal with the situation and will have covers ready. He assured fans that the weather is likely to improve from Saturday onwards, ensuring better playing conditions for the remainder of the match.
“Friday looks like it could be thunderstorms, I’m not sure exactly on the timing of those storms coming through, but we’re expecting to pull covers on Friday. Hopefully, it clears out on Saturday morning, then it should be good for the remainder of the Test,” said Hough.

Adelaide Pitch to Offer Balanced Conditions
Hough also spoke about the pitch preparations, emphasizing that the surface will closely mirror that used in recent Sheffield Shield games. The pitch is expected to have around 6mm of grass, offering a balance between bat and ball.
“Shield games, whether it’s a red ball or a pink one, we’re trying to replicate the Shield and the Test preparation … very similar preparations. The Shield pitch showed if you didn’t get a new ball under lights, and you had a couple of set batters in, you’re able to see through some night-time cricket,” Hough explained.
This approach aims to provide a fair contest between bat and ball while maintaining the unique challenges posed by day-night cricket.
India’s Preparations and Historical Context
India, fresh off a remarkable win in the first Test, will look to maintain their momentum in the Adelaide Pink-Ball Test starting December 6. The last time India played a pink-ball Test at Adelaide in the 2020 series, they suffered a humiliating collapse, being bowled out for just 36 runs in the second innings.
This time, Rohit Sharma returns as captain and is expected to bolster the batting lineup. Reports suggest that India may stick with KL Rahul at the top of the order, with Rohit likely batting in the middle order.
