A Love Story Rooted in Friendship
Ashwin and Prithi’s journey began in their school days, where they were classmates.
“We kind of knew each other in middle school. We were classmates, that’s it. Nothing more than that,” shared Prithi during an interview with 7Cricket.
Life took them on separate paths, but fate brought them back together years later when Ashwin’s cricket career was gaining momentum.
“I was playing for CSK. I got my contract. It was all very new. When you went into an IPL bubble, you end up in some shoots. That’s when I met her after a long time,” Ashwin recounted.
Their reunion rekindled a connection that soon turned into something more significant.
The Spontaneous Proposal
Ashwin’s proposal was far from traditional. There were no candlelit dinners or elaborate plans. Instead, the moment unfolded naturally at the Chemplast Cricket Ground, a place Ashwin felt most at home.
“The intention wasn’t to propose. I was just taking her out. None of what I do is planned. I do things instinctively and try and patch things around it,” Ashwin confessed.
In the middle of their conversation, Ashwin popped the big question, catching Prithi entirely off guard.
“He dropped the bomb very early and then kind of saw what fell into place,” Prithi added with a laugh.
Despite the spontaneity, the unplanned proposal worked its charm. The couple got engaged in 2011 and tied the knot in a grand wedding ceremony on November 13, 2011.
A Life Beyond Cricket
The Ashwins didn’t just stop at being a power couple. They built a beautiful family together, welcoming two daughters, Akhira and Aadhya, in 2015 and 2016.
Prithi, a B.Tech graduate and trained classical dancer, is much more than just Ashwin’s partner. Her own accomplishments complement Ashwin’s stellar cricketing career, making them a true power duo.
Ashwin’s Stellar Career
Recently, Ashwin bid farewell to his illustrious international cricket career, leaving behind a legacy few can match. With 765 wickets across formats, including 537 in Tests, he retires as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Tests, trailing only Anil Kumble.
Ashwin and Prithi’s story is a reminder that love, much like life, doesn’t always follow a script—and that’s what makes it beautiful.
