Former cricketer Yograj Singh has made a fiery statement about revamping Team India if given the opportunity to be its head coach. Speaking on Taruwar Kohli’s podcast, ‘Find a Way,’ Yograj claimed that under his leadership, the Indian cricket team would become “unbeatable for ages.”
With India’s recent struggles in Test cricket—including a 0-3 whitewash at home against New Zealand and a Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat in Australia—many experts have weighed in on the team’s challenges. Despite their continued dominance in white-ball cricket, including a Champions Trophy win, India’s red-ball performance remains a concern, especially with the upcoming England Test series in June.

Yograj Singh: “Kohli & Rohit Need Protection, Not Criticism”
Yograj Singh emphasized the importance of backing senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, rather than constantly questioning their place in the team.
“If you make me the coach of the Indian team, I will use these same players to transform it into a side that will be unbeatable for ages. People are always ready to drop Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli—but why? They are going through a rough patch, and I want to tell my kids that I am with them. Let’s play Ranji Trophy, or I will make Rohit run 20 km every day. Nobody does that. These players are diamonds; you don’t throw them out.”
Yograj also stated that his coaching philosophy would be tough but nurturing, similar to how he treated his own son, Yuvraj Singh, and other Indian players like MS Dhoni.
Kohli, Rohit to Play for India A?
Meanwhile, reports suggest that some senior Test players, including Kohli and Rohit, could be included in the India A squad for two four-day tour games against the England Lions. These matches, set to begin on May 30, will serve as preparation for the five-Test series against England.
The final squad will be decided based on player availability after the IPL 2025 playoffs. This could be an opportunity for senior players to regain red-ball form ahead of a crucial series where India will be aiming for their first Test series win in England since 2007.
Would Yograj Singh’s intense training philosophy work for Team India? His bold ideas might not be far from what the team needs to reclaim Test dominance on foreign soil.
