Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) express pacer Mayank Yadav is set to miss the first half of IPL 2025 due to a back injury, as reported by ESPNCricinfo. The young speedster is suffering from a lumbar stress injury, which he picked up after his impressive international debut against Bangladesh.
The injury is believed to be on the left side of his lower back, and the 22-year-old has only recently resumed bowling at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

Mayank Yadav’s Injury Woes Continue
Mayank Yadav burst onto the scene in IPL 2024, making a name for himself with his blistering pace, consistently clocking over 150 KPH. He had a dream start to his IPL career, winning two consecutive Player of the Match awards.
However, injuries have repeatedly halted his progress. He was ruled out after playing just four games last season due to a side strain, and his return was further delayed due to recovery complications.
Despite his setbacks, his raw pace and wicket-taking ability earned him a national call-up for India’s T20I series against Bangladesh. He impressed immediately, picking up four wickets in three matches. However, just as he was gaining momentum, the lumbar stress injury struck, keeping him sidelined again.
LSG Faces a Speed Dilemma
LSG showed faith in Mayank Yadav by retaining him for INR 11 Crore, but his latest injury setback raises concerns over his long-term fitness. While he is expected to be match-fit in the second half of IPL 2025, his availability remains uncertain.
In his absence, LSG, now led by Rishabh Pant, will hope that pacers like Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Mohsin Khan step up. This season, the franchise also has Zaheer Khan as their team director, who will play a crucial role in managing the pace attack.
LSG will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Delhi Capitals in Visakhapatnam on March 24. Fans will be hoping that Mayank Yadav returns to full fitness soon to light up the tournament with his raw pace once again.
