England’s batting stalwart Joe Root is on the brink of creating history during the upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.

The former England captain is just 402 runs away from becoming the first batter to score 5000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). Currently sitting at 4598 runs, Root has been a consistent performer in the tournament, averaging over 50.

Moreover, Root is also closing in on Alastair Cook’s record for the most runs for England in Test cricket. With 12027 runs to his name, Root needs 446 more runs to surpass Cook’s tally of 12472 runs.

Interestingly, Root also has the opportunity to surpass Cook’s record for the most runs against Sri Lanka for England. Cook holds the record with 1290 runs, while Root is currently at 1001 runs.

The upcoming series against Sri Lanka presents a golden opportunity for Root to etch his name in the record books.
