Moreover, Root is also closing in on Alastair Cook’s record for the most runs for England in Test cricket. With 12027 runs to his name, Root needs 446 more runs to surpass Cook’s tally of 12472 runs.
Interestingly, Root also has the opportunity to surpass Cook’s record for the most runs against Sri Lanka for England. Cook holds the record with 1290 runs, while Root is currently at 1001 runs.
