Indian wicket-keeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to make a much-awaited return to red-ball cricket by leading Jharkhand in the upcoming Buchi Babu tournament.
Kishan’s inclusion comes as a surprise as he wasn’t initially part of the Jharkhand squad. However, upon expressing his desire to return to first-class cricket, the state association promptly added him to the team. This move is seen as a crucial step towards his potential comeback to the Ranji Trophy and, subsequently, the Indian Test team.
The 25-year-old has been away from red-ball cricket for a significant period, with his last first-class match dating back to December 2022. His decision to prioritize white-ball cricket over domestic red-ball cricket had led to his exclusion from the Indian Test team and the central contract list.
With Rishabh Pant back in form and Dhruv Jurel emerging as a promising talent, Kishan faces stiff competition for a spot in the Indian Test squad. A strong performance in the Buchi Babu Trophy could be crucial for his comeback aspirations.
Do you think Ishan Kishan can make a successful comeback to Test cricket?
