Dhoni’s New Bat Strategy for IPL 2025
The IPL 2025 season kicks off on March 22, with CSK set to face Mumbai Indians (MI) in a blockbuster clash on March 23. According to a report by The New Indian Express, MS Dhoni will use bats that are 10-20 grams lighter than what he previously wielded.
A source revealed that Sanspareils Greenlands (SG), a leading cricket equipment manufacturer from Meerut, recently delivered four new bats to Dhoni, each weighing around 1230 grams but maintaining the same shape as before. During his peak, Dhoni preferred one of the heaviest bats on the international circuit, making this adjustment a notable shift in his playing style.

Dhoni Training Hard in Ranchi
Ahead of the tournament, Dhoni has been training rigorously in Ranchi, working on his batting technique with bowling machines. Despite being retained by CSK as an uncapped player, the 42-year-old is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation.
A Jharkhand State Cricket Association official confirmed Dhoni’s dedication, saying:
“He used to train at the indoor facility. As there was no team camping here at the venue at that time, he was training with the bowling machine. He also played a friendly tennis match on the opening day of a tournament played here.”
CSK’s Pre-IPL Camp & Training Schedule
CSK’s pre-IPL training camp is expected to start on March 10 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. However, the BCCI has instructed CSK management to keep the stadium in optimal condition until March 9, meaning training cannot begin before that date.
“The schedule of training has not been finalized yet. Anyway, the MA Chidambaram Stadium cannot be used for training purposes till March 9,” a CSK management source said.

Dhoni’s Role in IPL 2025
During IPL 2024, Dhoni was often used as a finisher at No. 8, delivering crucial cameos with his trademark six-hitting ability. With lighter bats this season, it remains to be seen whether he adapts his game or continues his explosive lower-order role.
