Historic Event in Jamaica! Sabina Park Set to Host Australia in a D/N Test

Cricket Australia has approved its first-ever overseas Day-Night Test during the West Indies tour in June 2025, pending final floodlight upgrades at Kingston’s Sabina Park. If the facility meets required standards, the third Test of the series will feature the pink ball, testing Australia’s unbeaten record in overseas day-night cricket.

West Indies Eye Another Historic Triumph

This decision follows West Indies’ shocking 2024 Gabba win, where Shamar Joseph’s 7/68 dismantled Australia, ending their 12-match unbeaten streak in pink-ball Tests. Cricket West Indies (CWI) is eager to build on that momentum, with CEO Chris Dehring rejecting the “upset” tag.

“The last time we played Australia in Australia, we pulled off what they consider an upset—but we certainly don’t. We intend to go one better,” Dehring stated.

With three Tests and five T20Is, the tour holds major significance for both teams. Australia seeks redemption for their Gabba defeat, while West Indies aim to prove their resurgence is real.

Sabina Park’s Day-Night Test: A New Challenge

Australia’s Peter Roach confirmed their openness to the fixture, provided Cricket West Indies completes the floodlight upgrades in time.

“We’re awaiting further updates from CWI on the new lights. We encourage teams to play day-night Tests here in Australia once a season, so when an opportunity to reciprocate arises, we are very supportive.”

CWI sees this as a chance to capitalize on home conditions, ensuring Sabina Park’s day-night Test debut is a landmark event in West Indies cricket.

With the series on the horizon, all eyes are on whether West Indies can repeat their Gabba heroics—this time, in their own backyard.
