‘He’s different from others’ – Muthiah Muralidaran’s massive praise for Ravi Bishnoi

In a thrilling conclusion to the five-match T20I series between India and Australia, held at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, India secured a resounding 4-1 victory. The hosts, put in to bat first, posted a competitive total of 160/8 in their allotted 20 overs. Australia, in their pursuit of victory, faced staunch resistance from the Indian bowlers, managing only 154/8 in their 20 overs.

One of the standout performers for India throughout the series was wrist spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who emerged as the leading wicket-taker with an impressive tally of nine wickets from five matches. Bishnoi’s impactful contributions continued in the final T20I, where he recorded figures of 2/29 in four overs.

Legendary Sri Lankan spinner Muthiah Muralidaran showered praise on Bishnoi, acknowledging his distinct style of leg-spin. Muralidaran highlighted Bishnoi’s ability to bowl quicker than other leg spinners and emphasized his skill in making the ball slide. Speaking on JioCinema, Muralitharan remarked, “Bishnoi is different from any other leg spinner than any other ones. He bowls quicker, and he makes slides the ball a lot.”

Muralitharan’s appreciation underscores the uniqueness Bishnoi brings to the spin department, adding diversity to India’s rich history of spin bowlers.

Ravi Bishnoi, at the age of 23, has swiftly established himself as a potent force in T20 cricket. Having made his debut against West Indies in February 2022 at Eden Gardens, Bishnoi has already scalped 34 wickets from 21 matches. His impressive average of 17.38 and an economy rate of 7.14 underline his effectiveness on the field.

The young spinner’s stellar performances in the series against Australia have not gone unnoticed, and he received accolades from fellow cricketers, including Suryakumar Yadav, who praised Bishnoi for showing character.

With the upcoming T20I series against South Africa on the horizon and Yuzvendra Chahal not in the squad, Ravi Bishnoi finds himself in an excellent position to further cement his place in the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup in 2023. His remarkable form and ability to consistently deliver impactful performances make Bishnoi a valuable asset for the Indian team as they set their sights on future cricketing challenges.
