The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been one of the most star-studded teams in IPL history, yet an elusive IPL title continues to haunt them. Having reached the finals three times (2009, 2011, 2016), RCB have failed to cross the ultimate hurdle. However, former Director of Cricket Mike Hesson believes that once they break the jinx, multiple titles could follow in quick succession.

“RCB’s Desperation to Win the IPL Is Growing Every Year”
Speaking to CricketNext, Hesson emphasized how RCB is run like a business, with the owners eager to end the franchise’s long-standing trophy drought.
“There is a desperation to win an IPL title at RCB. The franchise is run like a business, and the owners want to lift the trophy. The pressure to end the title drought grows every year,” Hesson said.
Despite criticism, he defended RCB’s long-term strategy, suggesting that the team has a structured approach and backs players more than some other franchises.
“RCB stick with a plan for a longer duration of time than some other franchises. RCB haven’t been able to win the title because you turn up against eight or nine outstanding teams, so I don’t think we can say that they have been doing anything particularly wrong. I think some franchises have given more chances to the players to show their skills,” he added.
“Once RCB Win, More Titles Will Follow Quickly”
Hesson made a bold prediction, stating that once RCB win their first-ever IPL title, they could dominate the league in the following years.
“I think once RCB win their first trophy, don’t be surprised if they add two or three more quickly to their trophy cabinet. Sometimes you try too hard and get desperate for the first one, but once it is achieved, you can relax a bit,” he remarked.
RCB kicked off their IPL 2025 campaign in style, registering a thumping victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens. With a well-balanced squad featuring top-tier batters and all-rounders, could this be the year when RCB finally lift the IPL trophy?
