‘Do Bacche Ka Baap Hoon’: Rohit Sharma Silences Critics Speculating Retirement After Sydney Test Omission

Rohit Sharma, India’s Test captain, has responded strongly to rumors about his potential retirement following his exclusion from the playing XI for the fifth Test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). After a lackluster series with the bat, speculation about the 37-year-old’s future in the longest format of the game had reached a fever pitch.

In a candid conversation during the lunch break on Day 2 of the Sydney Test, Rohit dismissed the speculation with a blend of humor and defiance, reminding critics of his experience and responsibilities.

Rohit’s Response to Critics

“Someone is sitting inside with a mic or a laptop or a pen, what he writes, what he says, our life does not change because of that,” Rohit said in an interview with Star Sports.

He added:

“Sensible aadmi hoon, mature aadmi hoon, do bachhon ka baap hoon, mere paas thoda sa dimaag hai! (I am a sensible man, I am a mature man, I am a father of two kids, so I have a little bit of brain).”

The Indian skipper made it clear that external voices cannot dictate his decisions or career trajectory, emphasizing his focus on contributing to the team’s success.

‘Tough Decision to Stand Down’

While Rohit’s exclusion from the Sydney Test raised eyebrows, the captain explained it was a decision made with the team’s best interests in mind.

“Sometimes, it is very tough. I have come so far here to play. I have not come to wait outside. I want to play. I have to win,” Rohit shared.

He elaborated on his philosophy of always putting the team first:

“If you don’t keep the team ahead, then it is of no use. If you play for yourself, make your own runs, what will that do? Cricket is a team game. Whatever the team needs, that’s what I aim to do.”

A Legacy of Selflessness

Since making his debut in 2007, Rohit Sharma has been known for his team-first mindset. His decision to step aside for the Sydney Test, though personally challenging, reflects his dedication to the team’s success in the series and beyond.

As the debate about his future continues, one thing remains clear: Rohit’s focus is unwaveringly on the team’s performance, not on the noise outside the field. For now, his experience, leadership, and maturity continue to be an integral part of Indian cricket.
