In the inaugural edition of the Women’s Premier League, Gujarat Giants have named Australia’s Beth Mooney as their captain. India player Sneh Rana has been appointed as the vice-captain of Gujarat Giants.
Mooney starred in the Women’s T20 World Cup, scoring an unbeaten 74 off 53 balls against South Africa in Sunday’s final to help Australia win their sixth Women’s T20 World Cup title.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to lead Gujarat Giants in the inaugural edition of the historic Women’s Premier League,” Mooney said in a statement issued by the franchise.
“Will present an entertaining and effective brand of cricket in the debut season of the WPL, hoping we go all the way to the finals. It would be absolutely fantastic to have Sneh Rana named vice-captain. And Mithali Raj, Rachael Haynes, and Nushin Al Khadeer will be vital parts of the team.”
On the other hand, Sneh Rana represented India in 25 T20Is and scalped 24 wickets. Since returning in 2021 after a long hiatus, she has been a regular member of the team.
“Being the vice-captain of Gujarat Giants is a huge responsibility. I look forward to putting in a stellar performance for the first edition of the Women’s Premier League. I look forward to leading a strong and talented team along with captain Beth Mooney. ” Rana said during the tournament.
