Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor Zaheer Khan has expressed disappointment over the pitch conditions at Ekana Cricket Stadium following the team’s eight-wicket loss to Punjab Kings (PBKS). Khan suggested that the pitch seemed to favor the visitors rather than giving LSG a home advantage.
Batting first, LSG set a target of 172 runs, but PBKS chased it down comfortably in just 16.2 overs, thanks to a dominant 69 off 34 balls from Prabhsimran Singh and an unbeaten 52 from Shreyas Iyer. This loss placed LSG sixth in the points table with just one win in three matches.

Zaheer’s Frustration Over Home Advantage
In the post-match press conference, Zaheer openly questioned the curator’s pitch preparation, stating that LSG failed to capitalize on home conditions.
“What was disappointing was that this was a home game, and in the IPL, teams usually try to take advantage of home conditions. But here, it felt like the pitch was prepared by a Punjab curator rather than someone supporting the home team.”
Zaheer acknowledged that he was still adjusting to his new role at LSG but hoped this would be the last time such an issue occurred.
“This is something we need to address. I hope this is the first and last time this happens, because Lucknow fans expect their team to dominate at home.”
Process Over Results: LSG’s Approach
Despite the disappointing performance, Zaheer remained optimistic about LSG’s campaign and emphasized the team’s process-driven approach rather than focusing solely on match results.
“It’s just the third game of the season. We have a clear vision and mission as a team, and we are looking at long-term goals rather than just individual results.”
He also credited Punjab Kings for outplaying LSG but reminded fans that the IPL is a long tournament, with six more home games left for redemption.
Addressing Injury Concerns & Team’s Bowling Strength
Zaheer acknowledged injuries as a challenge but praised the LSG bowlers for their impressive performances in the first two games.
“Despite injuries, this team has taken the highest number of wickets in the tournament so far. In our first two matches, we took 18 wickets, showing our ability to create an impact.”
He reassured fans that the team remains committed to playing with innovation, hunger, and a fighting spirit as the tournament progresses.
What’s Next for LSG?
With the home loss behind them, LSG will now focus on bouncing back in their next matches. Fans will be hoping to see stronger performances, better tactical decisions, and most importantly, home conditions that actually favor the home team!
