Cricket icon Yuvraj Singh, known for his heroic six sixes and World Cup glory, is embracing a refreshing new chapter—family life, fatherhood, and entrepreneurship. In a heartwarming and candid interview with Curly Tales, joined by his mother Shabnam Singh, Yuvraj offered fans a rare peek into the man behind the cricket legend.
Yuvraj has recently launched a stylish new restaurant, Koca, and continues to guide aspiring cricketers. However, the highlight of the interview was the affectionate banter between mother and son. Shabnam, full of stories, painted a vivid picture of Yuvraj’s mischievous childhood.
“He’s been extremely naughty since his childhood—and it’s only gotten worse with age!” she laughed. She recalled a hilarious incident where she got a call from the police station, only to find out it was a prank orchestrated by Yuvraj himself.
“Whoever’s fed mom these lines has done a brilliant job,” Yuvraj chuckled.
But the conversation turned emotional as Yuvraj spoke about his strict upbringing under his father, former cricketer Yograj Singh. “It was his dream that I live his dream,” Yuvraj shared. “I didn’t always enjoy the process, but it shaped me. I made it to Team India at 18 because I was pushed hard.”
Despite acknowledging the role his father’s discipline played in his career, Yuvraj made it clear he plans to take a different path as a parent.
“With my father, it was always about cricket. I don’t want to be a coach to my kids—I want to be a dad. The things I missed with my father, I want to do with my son.”
Yuvraj’s love for his son Orion was evident, and the emotion in his words struck a chord with fans.
When asked to pick his favourite cricket memory, it wasn’t the six sixes or the 2011 World Cup. Instead, he chose his breakthrough 84-run knock against Australia as a teenager. “Both my parents—who were separated—came together to receive me at the airport. That moment… that was pure magic.”
