“What are her own achievements…?”: Harbhajan Singh slams Congress spokesperson for questioning Rohit Sharma’s fitness

Legendary Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has come out in strong support of Rohit Sharma after Congress spokesperson Shama Mohamed’s remarks on the Indian captain’s fitness sparked controversy.

Mohamed, in a now-deleted post on X (formerly Twitter), had questioned Rohit’s fitness and leadership, which led to a massive backlash. Fans and cricketing personalities rallied behind Rohit, recognizing his immense contributions to Indian cricket.

Harbhajan Questions Mohamed’s Credentials

Harbhajan Singh, speaking to India Today, criticized Mohamed’s comments, questioning her authority to make such statements about an athlete’s fitness.

“Well, there will be people who’ll keep on talking about his fitness, captaincy skills. But I just asked a very simple question to that lady who made this remark about Rohit Sharma’s fitness—whether she’s a part of BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) or any other organization where she understands the rules and also fitness. What are her own achievements when it comes to sports?”

Harbhajan further pointed out how easy it is for people to criticize from the outside without understanding the challenges of professional sport.

“So, putting a finger towards anyone is very easy, but at the same time, the thumb is facing towards you. So just check yourself too,” he added.

Harbhajan Praises Rohit Sharma’s Leadership

The former off-spinner highlighted the immense pressure of representing India, especially in a high-stakes tournament like the Champions Trophy.

“It’s very hard for people to actually understand how it is to be playing for India and the kind of pressure a player goes through—only that player knows.

He’s got the responsibility to take the team forward, but he also needs to perform as a player. Rohit Sharma is a very hardworking, selfless guy. He’s someone who leads from the front and always puts the team’s interest first rather than himself.”

India’s Unbeaten Run in Champions Trophy 2025

Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India has been dominant in the Champions Trophy 2025, winning all their matches so far. The Men in Blue defeated Bangladesh, Pakistan, and New Zealand in the group stage before outclassing Australia in the semi-final to secure their third consecutive appearance in a Champions Trophy final.

India will now face New Zealand in the final on March 9 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

“Rohit Deserves Credit for India’s Success” – Harbhajan

Harbhajan credited Rohit for creating a strong team environment, which has played a crucial role in India’s success.

“I respect those people who respect the fact that the team comes first rather than individual interests.

I always say, it’s not about ‘me’, it’s about ‘we’—how we can play together and win the cup. The captain’s responsibility is to keep everyone on one page. Rohit Sharma must get credit for that—for uniting the team with one mission: to win the cup.”

With Rohit Sharma leading from the front, India now stands on the verge of creating history once again. Can he silence his critics with another ICC title? All eyes will be on Dubai this Sunday!
