Hardik Pandya’s Honest Admission
After the match, MI captain Hardik Pandya reflected on his team’s subpar performance, admitting that basic fielding errors cost them crucial runs.
“Tough to put it together; I think in batting and bowling, we were 15-20 runs short in both places. We were not professional in the field; we made basic errors, and that cost us 20-25 runs, and in a T20 game, that is quite a lot.”
GT’s Dominant Start & MI’s Struggles
Winning the toss and batting first, GT openers Shubman Gill (38) and Sai Sudharsan (63) provided a solid 78-run stand, setting the tone for their innings. Sudharsan continued his fine form, forging another 51-run partnership with Jos Buttler (39) before GT finished at 196/8.
“They (GT openers) batted brilliantly, only a couple of deliveries here and there. They didn’t take many chances, did the right stuff, and got runs without risky shots. We were doing catch-up since then,” Pandya added.
Despite the early-stage setbacks, Hardik remains hopeful that MI’s batting unit will step up in upcoming matches.
“At the moment, we all need to take responsibility. It’s still early stages. Batters have to come to the party; hopefully, they do that soon.”
Next Challenge for MI
Mumbai Indians will look to bounce back when they face defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Wankhede Stadium on March 31.
