Trent Boult to Return for Remainder of IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians (MI) have received a massive boost ahead of the IPL 2025 resumption, with star pacer Trent Boult confirmed to be available for the remainder of the tournament. The Kiwi left-arm seamer has been instrumental for MI this season, emerging as their top wicket-taker and currently standing fourth in the Purple Cap race with 18 wickets at an economy rate of 8.49.

Boult, who was MI’s most expensive buy at the mega auction for a whopping ₹12.5 crore, will be pivotal to their playoff push when the IPL resumes on May 17 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium following a week-long suspension due to the India-Pakistan border tensions.

While Boult’s availability is confirmed, MI are still awaiting updates on some of their other key overseas stars. South Africans Ryan Rickelton and Corbin Bosch have been selected for the national team’s squad for the World Test Championship Final against Australia, casting doubt on their continued participation in the league. Cricket South Africa has clarified that the NOC issued to these players only extends till May 25, the original IPL end date, and expects players to join the national setup by the end of the month.

In addition, England all-rounder Will Jacks could also miss the remainder of the IPL. The England Cricket Board (ECB) has asked players to return ahead of the ODI series against the West Indies, starting May 29, which now clashes with the rescheduled IPL playoffs.

Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, had a shaky start to the 2025 campaign but staged a strong comeback with six consecutive wins. At the time of suspension, they stood at fourth on the IPL 2025 points table with 14 points, and remain in contention for a top-two finish if they win their remaining league matches.

Boult’s return bolsters MI’s bowling lineup as they head into a decisive phase of the season. His presence, experience, and knack for early breakthroughs could be crucial for MI’s title hopes this year.
