“This Amount Is Nothing…”: Mohammed Shami’s Estranged Wife Reacts After Alimony Verdict

India pacer Mohammed Shami’s estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, has called the recent Calcutta High Court order directing the cricketer to pay ₹4 lakh per month in alimony a “victory” after a prolonged legal battle. Speaking to the media, Jahan said she and her daughter have every right to live a life of equal status, especially given Shami’s high earnings and lifestyle as an international cricket star.
Long Legal Battle Ends in Interim Relief
The legal tussle between Shami and Jahan has been ongoing since 2018 when the couple separated following serious allegations of domestic violence and harassment made by Jahan. In the years since, the case has bounced through various courts, with Jahan seeking financial maintenance for herself and their daughter, born in 2015.
“I am thankful to God that I finally got victory after fighting such a long battle,” said Jahan, as quoted by ANI. “Now I will be able to give my daughter a good education and maintain her life easily. If you see the life Shami leads, the status he maintains, his earnings—this amount is nothing in comparison.”
Monthly Alimony Fixed at ₹4 Lakh
The Calcutta High Court ordered Shami to pay ₹1.5 lakh monthly to Jahan and ₹2.5 lakh for their daughter’s care. Jahan originally filed for ₹7 lakh per month back in 2018, but her lawyer says this interim decision is a welcome milestone.
“From 2018 to 2024, she had been running from pillar to post. Ultimately, it was pronounced in open court yesterday that ₹1.5 lakh would be provided for Hasin Jahan, ₹2.5 lakh for the daughter,” said her lawyer Imtiaz Ahmed. “Any time the daughter requires assistance, it would be provided by Mohammed Shami.”
Ahmed added that the High Court has instructed the trial court to conclude the hearing on the main alimony application within six months. “There is a high chance that when they return to the trial court to conclude the hearing on maintenance, it might be upgraded to ₹6 lakh,” he revealed.
Jahan Asserts Her Right to Equal Lifestyle
Jahan, a former model who married Shami in 2014, reiterated her belief that both she and her daughter should not have to live in conditions vastly different from that of the cricketer.
“The status with which he leads his life, my daughter and I also have the right to maintain the same status,” she said.
As the legal proceedings continue, this development marks a significant point in the ongoing public and courtroom saga between Shami and Jahan.
