Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth has taken a strong stance against the BCCI selectors’ recent squad announcement for the Sri Lanka series. Notably absent from the T20I squad was Ruturaj Gaikwad, who had a successful Zimbabwe tour.
Srikkanth, on his YouTube channel, expressed his disappointment, calling Gaikwad an “automatic choice” for T20Is. He further added, “Rutu should score more runs and selectors should see him, because everyone is not Shubman Gill to have a good zodiac sign.”
This cryptic comment suggests Srikkanth believes Gill’s selection might be influenced by factors beyond cricketing performance. While Gill was recently appointed vice-captain for both white-ball formats, his form hasn’t been as consistent as Gaikwad’s.
Srikkanth’s statement has sparked debate among fans. Some agree that Gaikwad deserves a spot based on recent form, while others defend the selectors’ right to consider a wider talent pool. The comment regarding zodiac signs has also raised eyebrows, with some criticizing it as baseless and disrespectful.
