Shubman Gill Creates ICC History – Nobody Has Done This Before!

India’s young batting sensation and newly appointed Test captain, Shubman Gill, has been crowned the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025, following a stellar run against England in a gripping Test series. Gill outshone fellow nominees Wiaan Mulder of South Africa and England’s Test skipper Ben Stokes to claim the honor.
The 25-year-old was in breathtaking form, amassing 567 runs at an average of 94.50 in July alone, including two centuries and a double hundred across six innings. Across the entire five-Test series, he racked up 754 runs in 10 innings, registering four centuries and playing a pivotal role in India’s 2-2 series draw — highlighted by a gritty draw in Manchester and a thrilling six-wicket victory at The Oval. His heroics also earned him the Player of the Series award.
Gill described the recognition as “extra special,” given it came during his first Test series as captain. He highlighted his double century in Birmingham as a career-defining moment and praised his teammates for their support throughout the hard-fought series.
This latest accolade makes Gill the first male cricketer to win the ICC Player of the Month award four times, having previously won in February 2025, January 2023, and September 2023. Among women, only Ash Gardner and Hayley Matthews have matched this feat.
With his form peaking and leadership growing, Gill’s journey promises to bring more glory to Indian cricket in the months ahead.
