A New Opportunity After IPL 2025 Snub
Thakur had entered the IPL 2025 mega auction but went unsold, prompting him to make the most of the available April-May window by signing with Essex.
Expressing his excitement, Thakur stated:
“I am feeling excited to join Essex this summer. Personally, it brings new challenges and opportunities to showcase my talent and skills. County cricket is something I always wanted to experience, and I am glad that I’ll be representing the Eagles.”
Essex Excited to Welcome Thakur
Chris Silverwood, Essex’s returning director of cricket, emphasized the importance of signing a quality pace bowler with lower-order batting ability.
“We were very clear that a high-quality quick bowler with lower-order batting ability was a key target for us this winter. In Shardul, we have signed just that, and we can’t wait to welcome him to Essex.”
Aiming for an India Comeback
Despite being overlooked for the 2025 Champions Trophy squad, where Nitish Reddy was preferred for the Australia tour, Thakur is determined to force his way back into the Indian team. His County Championship performances will play a crucial role in proving his credentials as he eyes a return to the national setup.
With over 100 wickets across all formats for India, Thakur’s stint in English conditions will be a valuable experience, potentially paving the way for an international comeback.
