Royal Challengers Bengaluru Rope In Mayank Agarwal as Injury Replacement for Devdutt Padikkal in IPL 2025

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have brought in experienced opener Mayank Agarwal as a replacement for the injured Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season.

Devdutt Padikkal, who was enjoying a solid run at the top for RCB this year, has been ruled out of the tournament due to a right hamstring injury. The left-handed batter featured in 10 matches this season, scoring 247 runs at a strike rate of 150.60, including two half-centuries. He was the team’s second-highest run-scorer at the time of his exit.

To fill the crucial void, RCB have signed Mayank Agarwal for INR 1 Crore. Agarwal, who made his IPL debut for RCB over a decade ago, returns to the franchise with a wealth of experience under his belt. The Bengaluru-born batter has played 127 IPL matches, amassing 2661 runs with 1 century and 13 fifties to his name. He was last associated with Punjab Kings, where he also served as captain.

RCB Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed disappointment at losing Padikkal but welcomed Mayank with high hopes:
“It’s really unfortunate to lose Devdutt at this stage of the tournament, especially after the impact he’s had this season. He’s been a key part of our top order. We wish him a speedy recovery. At the same time, we’re pleased to welcome Mayank Agarwal to RCB. His experience and versatility will prove valuable for us as we head into the business end of the season.”

Currently placed second on the IPL 2025 points table, RCB are looking to lock in a playoff berth with three crucial games remaining:

  • May 9 – vs Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow
  • May 13 – vs Sunrisers Hyderabad at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru
  • May 17 – vs Kolkata Knight Riders at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Meanwhile, fifth-placed Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings in Dharamshala on May 8 in a must-win match to break into the top four.

Mayank’s return adds depth to RCB’s top order, and fans will be eager to see if the veteran can reignite his IPL career with impactful performances in the most crucial phase of the season.

Do you think Mayank Agarwal’s return to RCB will boost their title charge?
