The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is set to honour Indian cricketing legend Rohit Sharma by naming a stand after him at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The unveiling will take place on May 13, in a ceremony that will also celebrate former India captain Ajit Wadekar and ex-BCCI president Sharad Pawar with stands dedicated in their names.
The decision was ratified during the MCA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on April 15, recognizing the invaluable contributions of the trio to Indian cricket.
Divecha Pavilion Level 3: Rohit Sharma Stand
India’s current Test and ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, who has brought immense glory to the nation in recent years, will have the Level 3 of the Divecha Pavilion named after him. Rohit joins Indian legends Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar, who already have stands named in their honour at the venue.
In the last 10 months alone, Rohit has led India to two major ICC triumphs — the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. He has also guided India to two Asia Cup titles. Beyond international success, Rohit has been a dominant force in the IPL, steering Mumbai Indians to five IPL trophies, making him one of the most successful captains in the tournament’s history.
Grand Stand Level 4: Ajit Wadekar
Late Ajit Wadekar, who etched his name in Indian cricket folklore by leading the team to historic Test series victories in the West Indies and England in 1971, will be honoured with the Level 4 of the Grand Stand named after him. Wadekar’s leadership is widely credited with ushering a new era in Indian cricket.

Grand Stand Level 3: Sharad Pawar
Sharad Pawar, regarded as the mentor of MCA, will have Grand Stand Level 3 named in his honour. Pawar served as MCA president from 2001 to 2013, and again from 2013 to 2016. Under his tenure, Wankhede hosted the unforgettable 2011 ICC World Cup final, and the stadium itself underwent a major revamp.
A Rare Honour Among Active Cricketers
Rohit Sharma now joins an elite group of Indian cricketers to receive such an honour during their playing career. Notably, Virat Kohli is the only other active Indian cricketer to have a stand named after him — the Virat Kohli Pavilion at Arun Jaitley Stadium, unveiled in 2019 by the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).
The upcoming event on May 13 at Wankhede is expected to be a landmark celebration, not just of Rohit Sharma’s ongoing legacy, but also of two stalwarts who shaped the past and present of Indian cricket.
