Rohit Sharma’s Historic Feat in ICC Tournaments
With this achievement, Rohit has now led India to the final of four different ICC tournaments:
✅ World Test Championship (2023) – Finalist
✅ ODI World Cup (2023) – Finalist
✅ T20 World Cup (2024) – Champions 🏆
✅ Champions Trophy (2025) – Finalist
Before Rohit, MS Dhoni had led India to finals in three different ICC events (T20 World Cup 2007, ODI World Cup 2011, and Champions Trophy 2013), but he never captained in a World Test Championship final. Similarly, Kane Williamson led New Zealand to finals in three ICC events (ODI World Cup 2019, World Test Championship 2021, and T20 World Cup 2021) but never reached a Champions Trophy final as captain.
Rohit’s milestone makes him the only captain in cricket history to achieve this unique feat, further cementing his legacy as one of the game’s greatest leaders.

Chasing 265 for victory, India rode on a match-winning 84-run knock from Virat Kohli, with crucial contributions from Shreyas Iyer (45) and KL Rahul (42 not out)*. Hardik Pandya’s late power-hitting (28 off 24 balls) helped India finish the chase in 48.1 overs.
For his brilliant batting display in his ninth ICC knockout match vs Australia, Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match.
Rohit Eyes Another ICC Trophy
Having led India to the T20 World Cup title in June 2024, Rohit now aims to win his second ICC trophy as captain. India will take on the winner of the second semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa in the final on March 9.
With India’s No. 1 ODI team in top form, Rohit Sharma now has a golden opportunity to become only the third Indian captain, after MS Dhoni and Kapil Dev, to win multiple ICC trophies.
