India’s Champions Trophy 2025-winning captain, Rohit Sharma, is reportedly planning to extend his international career until the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa. The veteran opener has no immediate plans to step away from Test cricket either, despite speculation about his future.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Rohit has already outlined a comprehensive plan to maintain his fitness and batting sharpness, with the assistance of India’s current men’s senior assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar.
Nayar has been instrumental in shaping the careers of several Indian cricketers, including KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik, and is now set to play a crucial role in ensuring Rohit’s longevity in international cricket.
The report further suggests that a lot will depend on Rohit’s performance in the upcoming IPL 2025, as he looks to assess his form and fitness.
Rohit Sharma’s International Future
Following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, Rohit announced his retirement from T20Is. His Test future remains uncertain after he voluntarily opted out of the fifth Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test against Australia at the SCG in January 2025.
Many believed the Champions Trophy 2025 would be his final ICC event, but after leading India to victory against New Zealand in the final, Rohit made it clear that he was not stepping away from ODIs.
In the post-match press conference, the Player of the Match (76 runs in the final) addressed retirement rumors, saying:
