Rishabh Pant Reacts Strongly to IPL 2025 Release Rumours, Calls Out Fake News

Rishabh Pant, currently leading the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025, has found himself at the center of controversy after reports emerged suggesting the franchise was planning to release him ahead of the next season. The 27-year-old wicketkeeper-batter, who became the most expensive player in IPL history after being bought for ₹27 crore in the 2024 mega auction, has had an underwhelming season with the bat.
Pant has scored just 135 runs in 12 matches, managing only a single half-century. As LSG crashed out of the playoffs race, questions began swirling around Pant’s form and future with the team.
One journalist reported that LSG might release Pant ahead of IPL 2026 — a claim that triggered a fiery response from the cricketer himself.
Pant Slams Rumours on X
On Thursday (May 22), Pant took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his displeasure over what he called “fake news”. His post read:
“I understand fake News gives more traction To content but let’s not built everything around it. Little sense and credible news will help more rather than making fake news with agenda. Thanks, have a good day. Let’s be responsible and sensible about what we put out on social media.”
The statement clearly reflected Pant’s frustration with the growing scrutiny and baseless speculation about his future, especially during a tough season.
LSG’s Campaign Comes to an End
LSG’s hopes for IPL 2025 playoffs were dashed after a six-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad in their previous game. Despite putting up 206 runs, the bowlers failed to defend the total as Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 59 off 20 balls propelled SRH to victory.
Pant is set to feature in LSG’s 13th league match on Thursday against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While LSG are no longer in playoff contention, Pant will be eager to finish the season on a high and silence the critics with a big performance.
As the season winds down, all eyes will be on whether Pant can bounce back and reaffirm his value — not just as the costliest buy, but as a leader capable of steering a team through adversity.
