Reports: Rohit Sharma to retire post T20 World Cup

The Indian cricket team might see a big change in its T20I team soon. Reports say that captain Rohit Sharma might play his last T20 International matches after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA. This could happen because of the controversial choice of Hardik Pandya as vice-captain of India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Rohit Sharma has been a key player for India’s limited-overs teams for more than ten years. He led the team to many victories, like in the 2018 and 2024 Asia Cups.

But lately, his form hasn’t been great, especially in this year’s IPL. As he’s getting older, people are guessing that he might retire from T20Is after the World Cup in June this year.

According to a report, Hardik Pandya was made vice-captain because of pressure from BCCI officials. They see him as a future captain because he’s from Gujarat. But even he hasn’t had a good IPL season as the captain of Mumbai Indians (MI).

There’s news of a disagreement between Rohit and Hardik in the Mumbai camp. Hardik became MI’s captain even though Rohit had won the title five times with the team. Some players seem to still support Rohit over Hardik, which might be causing tension in the team.

Some people are uncomfortable with Hardik being seen as India’s future captain so soon. How Rohit performs in the T20 World Cup will be important. If he plays really well, he might continue playing. But if Hardik doesn’t improve, he might have to stop being seen as a future captain.
