“Ready to host matches on time,” PCB official dismisses rumours of Champions Trophy moving out of Pakistan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 might be moved out of Pakistan due to delays in stadium upgrades. The tournament is set to take place from February 19 to March 9, with matches scheduled in Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, and Karachi’s National Bank Stadium. India’s fixtures will be hosted at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

PCB Confident of Timely Completion

A PCB official confirmed that substantial resources have been allocated to ensure the venues are ready for the global event.

“The PCB has spent nearly PKR 12 billion to upgrade our stadiums to make them fitting for an event like the Champions Trophy, which was awarded to us,” said the official as quoted by PTI.

ICC Delegation Supports Pakistan’s Readiness

The official highlighted the presence of a large International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation, including broadcast, hospitality, and event operations officials, as proof that preparations are on track.

Media Speculation Dismissed

The PCB source explained that a previous statement about construction progress was issued to counter unfounded media reports suggesting that incomplete work could force a relocation.

“We issued the clarification because speculative news was being flashed without fact-checking, causing potential confusion among the PCB, ICC, government, commercial partners, and fans, impacting ticketing and marketing for the event.”

Unauthorized Reports Misleading

The PCB also criticized a local reporter for recording construction work at Karachi’s National Bank Stadium without permission, presenting an inaccurate portrayal of the situation.

“The stadium’s work is being monitored closely by the PCB and officials. They will be ready to host CT matches on time,” assured the spokesperson.

With the PCB reaffirming its readiness and continued monitoring of venue progress, fans can anticipate the successful hosting of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan as scheduled.
