Former India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is set to receive a unique honor in his hometown of Chennai, as a street will be renamed after him.
Ashwin has been one of India’s greatest cricketers, and this recognition from the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) further cements his legacy. According to a report in the Times of India, Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in West Mambalam—the very street where Ashwin currently resides—will soon be renamed in his honor.

Official Renaming Ceremony to Take Place Soon
The proposal to rename the street was put forward by Carrom Ball Event and Marketing Company Private Limited, a company owned by Ashwin. The recommendation was officially made during a Greater Chennai Corporation council meeting for the 2025 Budget, under Division 134, Kodambakkam Zone. The renaming ceremony is expected to take place soon.
Ashwin Joins an Elite List of Honored Sportspersons
With this, Ashwin will join the ranks of other Indian sports legends who have had streets named after them in their hometowns. Notable examples include former India hockey captain PR Sreejesh and former India cricketer Anil Kumble, who received similar honors in their respective cities.

Ashwin has been a stalwart of Indian cricket, especially in the Test format.
