PSL 2025 to Begin an Hour After IPL Matches: CEO Salman Naseer Confirms Strategy Shift

In a bold scheduling move, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has officially confirmed that its matches will start one hour later than Indian Premier League (IPL) games during the upcoming season. PSL 2025 will begin on Friday, April 11, in Rawalpindi, with matches starting at 8:30 PM IST, compared to the IPL’s usual 7:30 PM IST start.

The announcement was made by PSL CEO Salman Naseer during a recent podcast appearance, where he addressed concerns about the scheduling overlap with the IPL — one of the most-watched cricket leagues globally. Despite the timing clash, Naseer exuded confidence in PSL’s loyal and growing fan base.

“It is not an ideal situation but we are confident that the PSL has its own fan base and will attract the usual eyeballs,” Naseer stated. “Cricket fans anywhere, at the end of the day, just want to see competitive, entertaining matches.”

This marks the tenth edition of the PSL, and organizers have promised several upgrades to the tournament experience. From fresh production elements to enhanced fan engagement features, this year’s PSL aims to step up its game both on and off the field.

Opportunity in Overlap

Interestingly, Naseer pointed out a silver lining in clashing with the IPL — access to high-quality overseas players who went unsold in the IPL auction. This scheduling has given PSL franchises an opportunity to pick up these experienced T20 stars and inject even more talent into their squads.

“The benefit of having the tournament at the same time as the IPL is that we were able to sign overseas players who didn’t get picked in the IPL auction,” he said.

Off-Field Tensions Linger

While PSL 2025 promises high-octane cricket, the off-field dynamics could also attract headlines. Last season saw internal friction between some franchise members, which created a stir during the tournament. Naseer acknowledged the incident and emphasized the importance of clear communication between the franchises and the PCB.

“We feel that instead of going public, it would be best if they spoke and communicated to us directly on any issues they might have,” Naseer advised, urging all stakeholders to address grievances privately for the betterment of the league.

Final Word

As PSL enters a crucial phase of its evolution, its ability to hold its own during IPL season will be closely watched. With new features, top-tier international players, and a loyal fan base behind it, PSL 2025 might just be in for its most exciting chapter yet — even with the ticking clock of the IPL looming every evening.
