Prithvi Shaw Visualizes India Comeback with Arjun Tendulkar, Sets Sights on World Cup Glory

Despite facing a challenging phase in his cricketing career, Prithvi Shaw remains determined and optimistic. The 25-year-old opener has revealed his dream of returning to the Indian team—this time alongside his childhood friend Arjun Tendulkar—and lifting a World Cup trophy for the nation.
Shaw has had a tough few years. He was omitted from Mumbai’s squads for both the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Ranji Trophy in the 2024–25 season, despite being part of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy-winning side. In that tournament, his form was underwhelming, managing only 197 runs in 9 games, with a highest score of 49.
Adding to his woes, Shaw went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Arjun Tendulkar, meanwhile, remained part of the Mumbai Indians squad but didn’t feature in any matches during the season. Arjun, now representing Goa in the domestic circuit, continues to work on his bowling, while Shaw is eyeing a major comeback.
In a recent conversation with News24, Shaw opened up about a dream that keeps him motivated: to play for India again, with Arjun Tendulkar as his teammate.
“Absolutely. Why not?” Shaw responded when asked if he sees himself opening the batting for India with Arjun opening the bowling. The duo, who share a long-standing bond since their junior cricket days, have often been compared due to their famous cricketing backgrounds and early promise.
On Arjun’s IPL stint, Shaw remarked, “Only when you play, you’d realise how talented and skilled one is. He should’ve played more games.” Shaw believes Arjun needs opportunities to prove his abilities at the highest level.
Shaw also shared his ambition of winning major ICC tournaments for India. “One of my goals is to win the World Cup for India. Both the World Cups—ODI and T20. The next World Cups will be in my mind, and I will prepare for them.”
Shaw had a spectacular start to his international career, scoring a century on Test debut in 2018. However, inconsistency, injuries, and fitness issues hampered his progress. His last appearance for India came in July 2021. Since then, competition from rising talents and a dip in form have kept him out of the national setup.
Despite the setbacks, Shaw’s intent is clear—he aims to rewrite his story, get back in shape, and work toward national selection. He emphasized his focus on discipline, fitness, and consistent performances as the foundation for his comeback journey.
As India continues to search for solid top-order options, especially in limited-overs formats, Shaw’s vision could still become a reality—if backed by runs and resilience. With youth still on his side and a hunger to prove himself, the journey for Prithvi Shaw is far from over.
