Prithvi Shaw Set To Leave Mumbai, Requests NOC To Represent Another State – Reports

In a notable shift in India’s domestic cricket landscape, Prithvi Shaw has officially requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), expressing his desire to represent another state team as a professional player in the 2025-26 season. The 25-year-old batter, once regarded as a future star for India, appears to be seeking a fresh start following a stretch of underwhelming performances and repeated concerns about his fitness.
A senior official from the MCA confirmed to The Indian Express, “He has sought NOC from us and we will take a decision on it soon.” Reports also suggest that Shaw has received interest from at least two to three state teams keen on roping him in.
Fallout With Mumbai Management
Shaw’s relationship with Mumbai’s selectors has reportedly grown tense over the past couple of years. One of the major sticking points has been his fitness. He was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad last season after fitness reports flagged a high body fat percentage. Despite repeated warnings, the batter reportedly failed to meet the physical benchmarks required by the team.
Due to these concerns, Shaw was also excluded from the Vijay Hazare Trophy squad in December 2024. The MCA selection committee had made it clear that fitness would be non-negotiable moving forward.
Dip in Domestic and IPL Performances
Prithvi Shaw’s recent performances haven’t done much to bolster his case. In the Mumbai T20 League 2025, he managed just 137 runs in five matches, averaging 27.40 with a solitary half-century. His form in the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy was similarly disappointing — 197 runs in nine matches at an average of 21.88.
His Indian Premier League (IPL) fortunes have also nosedived. After a mediocre 2024 season with Delhi Capitals, where he scored 198 runs in eight games, Shaw was released by the franchise. At the IPL 2025 mega auction, he went unsold despite listing himself at a base price of ₹75 lakh.
From Teenage Sensation to Uncertain Future
Shaw’s story is a reminder of how quickly fortunes can change in Indian cricket. After a stellar Test debut in 2018, where he smashed a century against the West Indies, the right-hander was touted as India’s next big thing. However, injuries, poor form, and off-field distractions have severely stalled his progress. In five Test matches, he has scored 339 runs at an average of 42.37.
With a potential move away from Mumbai on the cards, Shaw will be hoping a new environment can help him refocus and resurrect his once-promising career. Whether he can recapture his lost touch remains to be seen — but a second chance with a new team could be the fresh start he needs.
