Prabhsimran Singh, the 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batter from Punjab, etched his name in IPL history on Thursday (May 29) by becoming the first Indian and only the second uncapped player overall to score 500+ runs in a season for Punjab Kings (PBKS). He achieved the feat during Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Mullanpur by taking a single off Yash Dayal’s bowling in the second over.
The only other uncapped player to achieve this for PBKS was Shaun Marsh, who scored 616 runs in IPL 2008. Overall, Yashasvi Jaiswal holds the record for most runs in a single IPL season by an uncapped player, with 628 runs for Rajasthan Royals in 2023.
Most Runs in an IPL Season for PBKS:
- KL Rahul – 670 (2020)
- KL Rahul – 659 (2018)
- KL Rahul – 626 (2021)
- Shaun Marsh – 616 (2008)
- KL Rahul – 593 (2019)
- Glenn Maxwell – 552 (2014)
- Shreyas Iyer – 516* (2025)
- Shaun Marsh – 504 (2011)
- Prabhsimran Singh – 500* (2025)
Prabhsimran had a promising start in the Qualifier but was dismissed for 18 off 10 balls after hitting two fours and a six. His efforts, however, have been a key part of Punjab’s best IPL season in over a decade.
Big Misses for PBKS in Qualifier 1
PBKS went into the crucial playoff match without star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who remains sidelined with an injury. Chahal, the IPL’s all-time leading wicket-taker, was also absent in PBKS’ final two league matches against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians.
Another big name missing was Marco Jansen, who has returned to South Africa to prepare for the World Test Championship Final against Australia, scheduled at Lord’s from June 11–15.
Hazlewood Returns for RCB
In a boost for RCB, Josh Hazlewood returned to the playing XI, replacing Nuwan Thushara. The Aussie speedster, who has taken 18 wickets in 10 games this season, had missed the last four matches due to a shoulder injury.
As PBKS eyes its first IPL final since 2014, Prabhsimran’s consistent performances and the team’s resilience despite injury setbacks will be crucial in their title push.
