PCB To Appoint Shahid Aslam as Batting Coach Ahead of Zimbabwe Tour: Report

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly set to name Shahid Aslam as the national men’s team’s new batting coach ahead of their white-ball series against Zimbabwe. According to sources, the official announcement is expected soon, with Aslam likely to take on the role permanently following Pakistan’s recent batting struggles, particularly during the T20I series against Australia.

Aslam’s Appointment Backed by Aqib Javed

Aslam’s appointment comes on the recommendation of Aqib Javed, Pakistan’s interim head coach for white-ball cricket. Shahid Aslam, a long-time member of the national team’s support staff, is stepping into the batting coach role to address the team’s ongoing batting woes.

His first major challenge will be the Zimbabwe tour, which comprises three ODIs and three T20Is in Bulawayo, beginning on November 24. A successful stint could set the tone for his tenure, as Pakistan also gears up for a competitive series against South Africa soon after.

Pakistan’s Recent Batting Woes

Pakistan’s batting lineup has been underperforming, as highlighted by their dismal display during the T20I series in Australia, where they suffered a 3-0 clean sweep.

  • Usman Khan was the standout performer with 59 runs across three matches, while the rest of the lineup faltered.
  • Former captain Babar Azam, typically a reliable run-scorer, managed just 47 runs in the series, with a top score of 41.
  • Australia dominated with Marcus Stoinis leading their charge, sealing the series with a seven-wicket victory in the final game in Hobart.
