The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially responded to recent claims made by former red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie regarding unpaid dues. In a firm rebuttal issued on Sunday, the PCB denied any wrongdoing and clarified that Gillespie had breached the terms of his contract by abruptly ending it without serving the mandatory notice period.
“The Pakistan Cricket Board refutes claims made by a former head coach on the non-payment of his dues,” the board stated. “The PCB spokesman states that the former head coach abruptly left his position without giving a four-month notice period, which was a clear breach of the contractual terms.”
According to the PCB, both parties were contractually obligated to provide a four-month notice in the event of termination. Gillespie, who was appointed in April 2024 as the red-ball head coach, resigned in December before the team’s scheduled white-ball tour of South Africa. His sudden departure allegedly stemmed from internal differences with the board, though Gillespie has not publicly confirmed the reasons.
Gillespie, since his resignation, has remained critical of the PCB’s administration and operations. In a recent interview with an Australian media outlet, he revealed that he is still awaiting full payment for his coaching tenure in Pakistan.
“Yeah, without going into the details, obviously still waiting on some remuneration from work that has been done,” Gillespie said. “Admittedly, that has been a little bit disappointing but look, hopefully that can get sorted sooner rather than later.”
The PCB, however, insists that the former Australian fast bowler was well aware of the terms of his contract and that his departure constituted a breach. The board emphasized its accountability only within the boundaries of the agreement signed.
“The coaching contract explicitly mentioned a notice period applicable to both parties, and the coach was fully aware of it,” the PCB’s statement added.
This back-and-forth marks the latest in a series of public spats between Gillespie and the PCB. While the former coach hopes the issue is resolved amicably, the cricketing community now awaits further developments as the situation unfolds.
