Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been appointed as the new President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), replacing Shammi Silva of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), who held the position for just three months. Naqvi takes over at a crucial time for Asian cricket, following Jay Shah’s transition to ICC Chairman in December 2024.

A Leader in Challenging Times
Naqvi, who became PCB chairman in early 2024, has navigated one of the toughest phases in Pakistan cricket. Despite challenges, his leadership saw three major stadium renovations and the successful hosting of the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in a hybrid model.
The ACC welcomed his appointment, highlighting his vision for innovation and expansion:
“With a vision to elevate the sport, strengthen partnerships, and expand cricket’s reach, Mohsin Naqvi’s tenure promises to shape the future of the game in Asia.”
Naqvi’s Vision for Asian Cricket
Beyond cricket administration, Naqvi has held key governmental roles in Pakistan, including as the country’s Minister of Interior and Caretaker Chief Minister of Punjab. His diverse experience is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the ACC’s future.
“Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence,” Naqvi stated.
He also thanked outgoing president Shammi Silva and expressed commitment to unlocking new opportunities for Asian cricket.
Shammi Silva Reflects on His Tenure
Silva, who took over the ACC presidency in December 2024, wished Naqvi well and reflected on the ACC’s growth under his and Jay Shah’s leadership:
“Under Jay Shah’s leadership, ACC secured record-breaking commercial rights for the Asia Cup, introduced a new pathway events structure, and strengthened the development of cricket in Asia.”
He expressed confidence in Naqvi’s ability to further elevate ACC’s stature.
Key Challenges Ahead
Naqvi’s first major assignment as ACC President will be overseeing the 17th edition of the Men’s Asia Cup, scheduled for September 2025. The tournament’s format, venue, and participation structure will be critical decisions under his leadership.
With Asian cricket’s global influence growing, Naqvi’s tenure will focus on strengthening regional ties, boosting financial stability, and expanding the sport’s footprint across Asia.
