Pakistan Super League to Clash with IPL 2025 Due to Champions Trophy Schedule

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 will be held from April 10 to May 25, causing a direct clash with the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This scheduling decision has been necessitated by the upcoming Champions Trophy and the subsequent tri-series, which have led to a reshuffling of the domestic cricket calendar.

Traditionally, the PSL has been held in February and March, but due to the packed international schedule, the PCB has had to adjust the dates. The Champions Trophy is set to take place before the PSL, and a tri-series will be held immediately after it.

PCB Introduces Three New Domestic Tournaments

To further enhance domestic cricket, the PCB has introduced three new tournaments: Champions One Day Cup, Champions T20 Cup, and Champions Four-Day Cup. These tournaments will run throughout the year, starting from September 1, 2024. Five teams will participate in these tournaments: Dolphins, Lions, Panthers, Stallions, and Wolves.

Significant Increase in Player Remuneration

Along with the new tournaments, the PCB has announced a significant increase in the monthly stipends for domestic players. Players will be categorized into three tiers, with those in the top tier receiving up to PKR 550,000 per month. Match fees have also been increased substantially, with players earning PKR 200,000 for Test matches, PKR 125,000 for One-Day Internationals, and PKR 100,000 for T20 matches.

This move by the PCB is aimed at enhancing the standard of domestic cricket in Pakistan and providing more opportunities for players to showcase their talent. However, the clash with the IPL may pose challenges for overseas players who are contracted to both leagues.
