Namibia to Host South Africa in Historic T20I at New FNB Namibia Cricket Ground
In a landmark moment for African cricket, Namibia will host South Africa’s men’s team for a historic T20 International on October 11 in Windhoek, marking the first-ever international clash between the Namibian Eagles and the South African Proteas.
The highly anticipated fixture will also serve as the official inauguration of the FNB Namibia Cricket Ground (FNB NCG) — Namibia’s newest and most advanced cricket facility. Under construction since 2021, the FNB NCG is set to become the heartbeat of Namibian cricket, housing the national high-performance centre and serving as a key venue for major upcoming ICC tournaments.
A Milestone for Namibian Cricket
This encounter is more than just a cricket match. It symbolizes the growth and potential of cricket in Namibia, and the country’s strengthening position in global cricket. Having qualified for the last three ICC T20 World Cups, including their stunning win over Sri Lanka in 2022, Namibia is now emerging as a force to be reckoned with.
Ahead of the October clash, Namibia will compete in the Africa T20 World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe, aiming to secure a spot in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, set to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.
FNB NCG: A World-Class Cricket Hub
The FNB NCG will also host matches during the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s World Cup and the 2027 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, which Namibia will co-host alongside Zimbabwe and South Africa. The ground represents a major leap forward for Namibian cricket infrastructure and ambitions.

Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller described the match and stadium unveiling as the culmination of years of effort and vision.
“The FNB NCG has been four years in the making, and we’re thrilled to finally unveil it on such a grand stage. Playing against our neighbours, one of the world’s leading cricket nations, makes the occasion even more special,” Muller said.
Muller also expressed gratitude to Cricket South Africa (CSA) and its CEO Pholetsi Moseki for their support and commitment to making the fixture a reality.
In response, Moseki commended Namibia’s cricketing progress and emphasized CSA’s dedication to continental collaboration.
“We’re proud to be part of this historic moment. This match is more than just a game — it’s a celebration of African cricket’s rising strength and a preview of what’s to come as we prepare to co-host the 2027 ICC Men’s World Cup,” Moseki stated.
