Mushfiqur Rahim, one of Bangladesh’s most experienced batters, has had his fair share of memorable performances at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. His stunning 144-run innings against Sri Lanka in the 2018 Asia Cup remains one of the finest in the country’s cricketing history. However, the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against India turned into a nightmare for him.
Coming in at a critical moment on Thursday, Mushfiqur was expected to steady the ship for Bangladesh, as he has done many times in the past. But this time, his stay at the crease lasted just one ball as he was dismissed for a golden duck by Axar Patel.
His dismissal not only worsened Bangladesh’s situation in the match but also placed him in an unwanted record list. With this latest duck, Mushfiqur has now equaled Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s record for the second-most ducks in Bangladesh’s international cricket history.
Table of content
Most Ducks in Bangladesh’s International Cricket History:
- Tamim Iqbal – 36
- Mashrafe Bin Mortaza – 33
- Mushfiqur Rahim – 33
- Mohammad Ashraful – 31
- Shakib Al Hasan – 27
With 33 international ducks, Mushfiqur now sits level with Mashrafe Mortaza, trailing only Tamim Iqbal (36) for the most ducks by a Bangladeshi player.
A Frustrating Milestone for Mushfiqur Rahim
Mushfiqur is one of Bangladesh’s most accomplished batters, but this latest statistic is far from an achievement. While he has been a dependable middle-order batter for Bangladesh over the years, his increasing number of ducks highlights his occasional struggles under pressure.
In ODIs alone, Mushfiqur has been dismissed 12 times without scoring, placing him joint-fifth in Bangladesh’s all-time ODI duck list, alongside Shakib Al Hasan and Abdur Razzak.
Meanwhile, Tamim Iqbal leads this list with 19 ducks in ODIs, further proving how even the best batters can have their off days.
Mushfiqur’s Place Among the Global Leaders in Ducks
While Mushfiqur’s 33 ducks put him in an unfortunate category in Bangladesh, he is still far behind the all-time global record holders for ducks in international cricket:
- Muttiah Muralitharan (Sri Lanka) – 59 ducks
- Courtney Walsh (West Indies) – 54 ducks
- Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka) – 53 ducks
Despite this setback, Mushfiqur remains a vital part of the Bangladesh setup. However, with this unwanted milestone, he will be eager to put this moment behind him and focus on making an impact in the remainder of the Champions Trophy 2025.
