Former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel has been officially appointed as the new bowling coach of the Indian cricket team.
The decision comes after weeks of speculation about the role, with Morkel emerging as the frontrunner for the position. His appointment marks a significant development in Indian cricket, as it signifies a shift towards foreign coaches after a long period of relying on domestic expertise.
Morkel’s previous coaching experience with the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, where he worked alongside India’s new head coach Gautam Gambhir, is seen as a key factor in his appointment. The duo is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the Indian team.
The South African pacer will take charge of the Indian bowling unit starting from the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh. His immediate challenge will be to address India’s bowling concerns in overseas conditions, particularly in Australia where the team has faced difficulties in recent years.
