Mahmudullah’s Emotional Retirement Statement
Earlier this year, Mahmudullah had requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) not to consider him for a central contract beyond February 2025, hinting at his eventual retirement.
Confirming his exit from international cricket, he wrote:
“I have decided to retire from international cricket. I would like to thank all of my teammates, coaches & especially my fans who have always supported me.”
He also expressed gratitude to his family, particularly his brother Emdad Ullah, who played a crucial role in his cricketing journey.
“A big thank you to my parents, my in-laws—especially my father-in-law—and most importantly, my brother Emdad Ullah, who has been there for me constantly since my childhood as my coach and mentor.”
Acknowledging the sacrifices and support of his wife and children, Mahmudullah added:
“And finally, thanks to my wife & kids, who have been my support system through thick & thin. I know Raeid (his son) will miss me in the red & green jersey. Not everything comes to an end in a perfect way, but you say yes & move forward. PEACE… Best wishes to my team & Bangladesh cricket.”
The End of an Era for Bangladesh Cricket
Mahmudullah’s retirement follows that of Mushfiqur Rahim, who stepped away from ODIs recently. The duo’s performances came under scrutiny after Bangladesh’s underwhelming campaign in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, leading to speculation about their future.
