'Should learn from Virat Kohli and Ab De Villiers', Shahid Afridi slams Babar Azam

‘Keep Egos In Check…,’ Shahid Afridi’s Stern Message To India After Pakistan Travel Refusal

As the Champions Trophy 2025 approaches, the tournament is embroiled in controversy, with India refusing to travel to Pakistan, the host nation. The issue has escalated tensions between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the International Cricket Council (ICC), as they grapple with a potential impasse. The PCB has rejected proposals for a hybrid model and insists on hosting the tournament entirely within Pakistan.

Shahid Afridi Urges India to Prioritise Cricket’s Growth

Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has weighed in on the situation, calling for a resolution in the interest of cricket’s development. In a stern message posted on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Afridi urged India to set aside differences and egos, emphasizing the need for unity in promoting the sport.

“Cricket is at a crossroads, facing some big challenges. It’s time for everyone to come together for the benefit of the game, keeping our differences and egos aside,” Afridi stated.

Afridi highlighted that if nations that were once adversaries can come together for global events like the Olympics, there’s no reason why cricket should be any different. He emphasized that Pakistan is ready to welcome all countries, ensuring they leave with unforgettable memories.

Champions Trophy 2025: A Tournament in Jeopardy?

The tentative schedule for the Champions Trophy has India’s matches slated to take place in Lahore, with the tournament set to run from February 19 to March 9, 2025. However, India’s refusal to travel has cast a shadow over the event, leading to speculation that the tournament could either be postponed or relocated if the PCB does not agree to a hybrid model.

A Growing Crisis in Cricket Diplomacy

This standoff comes amidst increasing geopolitical tensions between the two neighboring countries, impacting bilateral cricketing ties. The last time India toured Pakistan for a cricket series was in 2006, and since then, all bilateral contests have been held at neutral venues or during ICC tournaments.

The ICC and other stakeholders are under pressure to find a solution that satisfies all parties, ensuring the Champions Trophy proceeds without further disruptions.

The cricketing world now watches closely as the standoff between India and Pakistan unfolds, with the outcome set to influence not just the upcoming Champions Trophy but the future of international cricket relations.
