Former India cricketer Kedar Jadhav is all set to step into the political arena as he prepares to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). According to reports, Jadhav will officially join the party on April 8 at the BJP’s Mumbai office, in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and state party president Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
This move marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Pune-born all-rounder, who announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in June 2024. After a cricketing career that spanned over a decade, Jadhav is now expected to contribute to public service and political affairs in Maharashtra.
Jadhav made his international debut in 2014 in an ODI against Sri Lanka and went on to play 73 ODIs, scoring 1389 runs at an impressive average of 42.09. Apart from being a reliable middle-order batter, he was also known for his clever off-spin bowling, taking 27 wickets at an economy rate of 5.1b5.
In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Jadhav enjoyed a long stint, playing for top franchises such as Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals, from 2009 to 2023. He also had a brief run with the now-defunct Kochi Tuskers Kerala.
With this political transition, Kedar Jadhav joins a growing list of Indian cricketers turning to politics post-retirement. His grassroots connection with Maharashtra and public popularity is expected to bolster the BJP’s outreach in the state ahead of upcoming elections.
His formal induction into the party will be closely watched by political observers and cricket fans alike.
