The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a heartbreaking start to their IPL 2025 campaign, losing to Delhi Capitals (DC) by just 1 wicket in a thriller at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on March 24, 2025.
LSG’s Strong Batting Display
After losing the toss and being put to bat, LSG put up a solid total of 209/8 in 20 overs:
- Mitchell Marsh led the charge with a blistering 72 off 36 balls (6 fours, 6 sixes).
- Nicholas Pooran played a destructive knock of 75 off 30 balls (6 fours, 7 sixes).
- David Miller finished strong with 29 in the death overs.
- For DC, Mitchell Starc (3 wickets) and Kuldeep Yadav (2 wickets) were the standout bowlers.
Ashutosh Sharma’s Heroics Seal the Match for DC
DC had a disastrous start, losing 3 wickets for just 7 runs. Despite brief recoveries from Faf du Plessis (29) and Axar Patel (22), they were struggling at 113/6 in 12.3 overs.
However, a game-changing partnership of 55 runs in just 22 balls between Ashutosh Sharma (66 off 31) and Vipraj Nigam (39 off 15)* turned the tide. Ashutosh’s fearless hitting in the final overs took DC to a dramatic 1-wicket win.
Sanjiv Goenka’s Inspiring Dressing Room Speech
Following the heartbreaking defeat, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka addressed the squad in the dressing room, offering words of encouragement.
“Lots of positives that I take away from this game in batting, in bowling. The way we had the powerplay in both innings was brilliant. These things happen. We are a young team, let’s look at the positives, and look forward, from tomorrow to the 27th. And hopefully, we’ll have a better result. Disappointing result (tonight), yes. But, great game. So, well done,” Goenka said in a video shared by LSG.

LSG will look to bounce back quickly as they prepare for a high-octane clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, on March 27. With SRH’s explosive batting lineup, LSG’s bowlers will have a tough challenge ahead.
