IPL 2025: Virender Sehwag Highlights CSK and MS Dhoni’s Struggles in Big Chases

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) faced another disappointing chase in IPL 2025, falling short by six runs against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. Despite having MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja at the crease in the final over, CSK couldn’t chase down 20 runs off the last six balls, continuing their struggles in high-pressure finishes.

CSK’s Poor Record in Big Chases

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has pointed out a damning statistic—CSK has not successfully chased a target of over 180 runs in the last five years.

While Dhoni has pulled off remarkable finishes in the past, including his famous onslaughts against Axar Patel and Irfan Pathan, Sehwag emphasized that such heroics are rare.

“Scoring 40 runs in 2 overs is a difficult task. No matter how big of a player is in the middle, it is a difficult job. You win on one or two occasions, and that is about it,” Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Sehwag’s Brutal Take on CSK’s Chasing Woes

Sehwag didn’t hold back when discussing CSK’s struggles, stating that their failure to chase big totals has been a consistent issue for the last five years.

“You can just remember one or two matches on top of your mind. No recent matches come to your memory. For five years, CSK have been unable to chase totals of more than 180,” he asserted.

CSK’s Next Challenge

With two losses in three games, CSK needs to turn things around quickly. Their next fixture is against the Delhi Capitals on April 5 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai—a venue where they have historically been dominant. However, with their chasing record under scrutiny, the pressure will be on Dhoni, Jadeja, and CSK’s top order to deliver.
